What a year Dr. Anissa Short has had. In 2026 she has expanded her media and publishing brands, added new coaching services, released her own new book and even went on tour! By the time we celebrated all of the MS Success Honorees of this year in September in Yazoo City, she has already shown the state and the world what Mississippi Success looks like.
And if the start of the last quarter of the year is any indication, she's not done yet.
Congratulations, Anissa, on being one of our Mississippi Success honorees for 2026. You have done so much this year. How does it feel to have the work you do recognized?
When I was notified that I had been nominated, I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised. To be recognized for work that I genuinely enjoy doing is truly an honor. I am grateful, thankful, and deeply blessed.
It is definitely deserved. What do you want people to know about the Mississippi that you know?
Mississippi is an eclectic blend of personalities, cultures, and communities, and I have been fortunate to live and work in various parts of the state over the years. One of the most meaningful things about Mississippi is the strong sense of family, community, and support that resonates throughout the state. While Mississippi may not be known for a fast-paced lifestyle, it is the birthplace of music that has shaped generations, entertainers who have inspired the world, and foods that bring people together in unforgettable ways.
Who has inspired you when it comes to wanting to make a difference?
My maternal grandmother was a tremendous inspiration to me, because she consistently found ways to serve and support others. Whether she was visiting the sick, repurposing clothing for those in need, or saving candy throughout the year to give to children at Christmas, there was always a meaningful project underway. My sister and I often accompanied her on those visits and helped prepare gifts for others. Those experiences made a lasting impression on our entire family and instilled values that continue to guide us today.
Because my life's journey has included living in various towns and cities throughout Mississippi, I believe each location has contributed to shaping who I am today. From my college experiences, to the richness of the Mississippi Delta, the beauty of the Gulf Coast, the charm of small towns with French influences, and the Top of Mississippi that I now call home, each place has influenced my perspective on people, life, and community-building. What I have gained from those experiences is what I now pour into the work I have been graced to do.
What helps you remain optimistic about the future?
My optimism is rooted in my faith and in the belief that all things work together for my good. That mindset fuels the way I approach every opportunity and shapes the spirit I strive to bring into every interaction and connection.
As someone who has shown what is possible when it comes to believing in yourself, what advice do you have for others when it comes to pursuing their goals and dreams?
Believing in yourself is essential when pursuing your goals and dreams, but equally important is having someone who can mentor and guide you along the journey. In every phase and season of life, there is value in learning from someone who has achieved what you aspire to accomplish while maintaining the integrity and character you respect. That kind of guidance is truly priceless.
Congratulations to you again. How can our readers stay connected with you?
They can connect with me via social media on Facebook or LinkedIn.
